Lord I Need You | Matt Maher, Et Al.

I love this song because it is a newer song, written in just the last 10 years, but it is based on the old Hymn I Need Thee Every Hour which was written by Annie Hawks in 1872.

The Core idea of both songs is Beautifully Simple:

Every Moment of Every Hour of Every Day We Need the Lord’s Love & Grace.

In Hebrews 4 we are told that although Joshua did lead the People of Israel into the land of Promise, he did not bring them into GOD’s PROMISED REST. Instead, the Promised Rest can only be found in JESUS HIMSELF. He is our High Priest, the King of kings & Lord of lords, and through Him we have access to the very Throne of God… And that is the Promised Rest.

In Jesus we are REDEEMED from Slavery to Sin!

We are RECONCILED to the Heavenly Father!

And we are RESTORED as His Image!

Thus, in the Gospel of Matthew (11:25-30), as Jesus reflected on the response of some to His Ministry and the Miracles:

“O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike…

“…Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

Do you want to experience the best possible Life? Are you tired of all the struggle just to get by? Are you exhausted from trying to prove yourself constantly? Are you weary of having to pretend like things are okay even when they are so obviously not okay?

This song is a reminder that when we COME TO JESUS LIKE A CHILD… We find that He is better than we ever could have imagined and that His Promise of Rest allows us to LIVE IN HIS LOVE & GRACE, Every Moment of Every Hour of Every Day.

And that is why I love this song.

~ Pastor Joshua

Lord, I come, I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
Without You I fall apart
You’re the One that guides my heart

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

Where sin runs deep Your grace is more
Where grace is found is where You are
Where You are, Lord, I am free
Holiness is Christ in me

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

So teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way
When I cannot stand I’ll fall on You
Jesus, You’re my hope and stay

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

You’re my one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
