Chili Cook-off

Thank you for checking out our 4th Annual Fall Scholarship Festival event page! This year, we are hosting a Chili Cook-off. This page is for the list of rules and application to be a contestant in this year’s competition!

List of Rules for our Contestants:

  1. All contestants must provide their own cooking apparatus, utensils, cooking fuel, ingredients, and table for serving. You may bring an easy up/tent to use.
  2. Your Chili may consist of meat, beans, vegetables, or a combination thereof, cooked with chili peppers, spices, and other ingredients. Due to food allergies, CONTESTANTS MUST LIST THEIR INGREDIENTS LIST DURING THE COOKING AND JUDGING PROCESS. (The actual recipe may be kept private.)
  3. All chili must be cooked from scratch on the day of the cook-off. “Scratch” is defined as starting with raw meat. Meat precut or ground but not pre-cooked. All other ingredients must be chopped or prepared during the competition.
  4. Other ingredients may not be precooked or treated in any way prior to the event. The only exceptions are canned or bottled tomatoes, tomato sauce, peppers, pepper sauce, broth, and grinding or mixing of spices.
  5. Commercial chili powder is permissible but COMPLETE COMMERCIAL CHILI POWDER MIXES ARE NOT PERMITTED.
  6. All chili must be prepared in the open.
  7. Each contestant will be assigned a number and given a container that will be turned in to be judged. Judging will be done in a timely manner and each person is responsible for delivering their chili to the judging area.
  8. Judges will base their scores on the following: flavor, texture of the meat, appearance, heat, and aroma.
  9. Contestants will be encouraged to decorate their area with their team name and themes.
  10. Contestants set up will begin at 8:00AM. Cook time may begin at 9:00AM. All Chili should be turned in by 1:00PM. Judging will begin at 1:15PM. Serving the Public will begin at 1:30PM. The winner will be announced at 2:00PM.
  11. Each contestant will need to make AT LEAST 8 quarts of chili. After judging, the remainder of the chili will be served to the public.
